Godsized – Gig Review

Monday 14th February 2011
O2 Academy, Birmingham

Godsized are one of the best metal / heavy rock bands on the horizon in the UK at the moment, and on Monday 14th February 2011, I got the chance to watch as they ripped open the stage whilst supporting Black Label Society.

I had received their EP a few months earlier, and was blown away after the first few minutes of listening, so I couldn’t wait to see what the guys had in store for us live. There was no surprise as to how much of a crowd there was, because you head to shows and crowds can usually be at a minimal during support acts – not for Godsized. As soon as they walked on stage the room was full, and they had people shouting their name and raising a beer to them.

The EP only had 3 tracks on it, so I couldn’t wait to hear more material. Track after track, I was blown away. The band has so much confidence and talent, and it almost felt effortlessly perfect. It wasn’t just the music that was driven, it was the crowd too. It’s clear there is already a massive band base out there, but as soon as ‘The Phony Tough And The Crazy Brave’ came on, the audience stepped it up a notch once more. After all this I had to battle my way through the crowd to the merchandise table, because I just had to buy the latest copy of their album, which has a rocking 10 tracks on it.

Later in the evening Neil (Guitarist) spotted me in the crowd and came over to say hello, and I got my CD signed. What a fantastic way to end an awesome evening – Cheers Neil!
